How does it feel to start training at Core-Backbone?🤔
Dominik, IT Specialist Trainee, looks back on his first six months in the support team and talks about the experiences that have shaped him and what has surprised him in a particularly positive way. 💬👇
How did you find your first six months at Core-Backbone overall?
The first six months were really exciting and varied for me. I was able to acquire a lot of new knowledge in a short period of time and had contact with hardware and software that I had never dealt with in my everyday life before. I also found it particularly positive that I got to know many friendly, helpful, and humorous people, which made it very easy for me to get started.
Do you feel well integrated into your team and the company?
Although I am generally a rather reserved person when it comes to new people, I was able to integrate into my team very quickly. I was able to build a friendly and open relationship with everyone. I can’t say for sure whether this is because we share a similar sense of humor or have common interests, such as hardware. What is certain, however, is that I feel very comfortable both in the team and in the company and would not want to miss out on the cooperation.
Do your duties as an IT Specialist Trainee meet the expectations you had before you started?
My expectations have actually been exceeded. I wasn’t given tasks that no one else wanted to do, but rather challenging work right from the start that allowed me to grow and learn a lot of new things. Since the average consumer hardly ever comes into contact with enterprise hardware and professional network equipment, it was particularly exciting for me to be able to work with such hardware right from the start. Through exchanges with my vocational school class, I realize how little trust is sometimes placed in other trainees, which makes me all the happier to be able to do my training at Core-Backbone.
Do you feel that your professional strengths and skills are being put to good use in your role?
I feel that my skills are being put to good use. After just a few days, my colleagues were able to assess my strengths and assign me suitable tasks that I could work on independently. If there were any gaps in my knowledge or anything that needed clarification, support was always available, so I never felt left alone.
How do you feel about the working atmosphere, teamwork, and corporate culture at Core-Backbone?
The working atmosphere is very pleasant. Everyone supports each other wherever they can, and you never have to feel shy about asking questions. I find the corporate culture very friendly, whether it’s eating together and talking about the weekend or team events like go-karting with the boss.
What has surprised you most positively in the last six months?
I was particularly surprised by the variety of the work. Unless there is a big project coming up, there is actually something different to do every day. This means that you are involved in significantly more processes than I had imagined at the beginning.
How well do you find it possible to balance vocational school with your everyday work at Core-Backbone?
Very well. During the vocational school blocks, however, you quickly realize that you miss everyday life at Core-Backbone, especially the coffee machine and the familiar faces in the office in the morning.
What are your hopes for the coming months?
I hope that things continue as they are and that I continue to have the opportunity to learn lots of new things and develop both professionally and personally.
Would you recommend the training program at Core-Backbone to others? Why?
I would recommend the training program to anyone who is willing to take on tasks independently. One of the great strengths of Core-Backbone is that there is no “one person” for a specific area, but rather everyone can contribute. For many of these tasks, there is no standard solution, so you have to find your own solution independently. If you can do that, you will be offered a challenging, varied, and at the same time fun training program with many competent colleagues.
Dominik looks back on an exciting first period full of new impressions and experiences at Core-Backbone. We thank him for his candid insights and look forward to many more years of working together. 🚀
