Interview with Benjamin

On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Core-Backbone GmbH, our management team answered a series of questions. Here is the complete interview with Benjamin, Head of Development:

Describe Core-Backbone in three words.
Determined, aspiring, dynamic.

Which moment has shaped Core-Backbone the most during your time here, and why?
The acquisition of RZ2 and the development of RZ3, as this marked the point where we truly left the CS-Arena era (game servers, web hosting) behind us and evolved into a data center operator and a large-scale server hosting provider.

In your view, what sets Core-Backbone apart from other companies?
I’ve only experienced this company from the inside, so I can only answer based on observation: Despite increasing bureaucracy, our company has retained its flexibility. We are able to respond quickly to changes and new requirements, which allows us to implement projects efficiently. This ability to execute quickly is definitely one of the things that sets us apart from other companies.

What has changed the most over the past 10–20 years, and what has stayed the same?
Twenty years ago, many things were more manageable – technology, tasks, and perhaps even how people connected. Today, we are more specialized, more professional, and operating on a completely different scale.
What has remained the same? The expectation that everything runs smoothly. 24/7. And that we don’t let changes throw us off our rhythm.

If Core-Backbone were a person, how would you describe it?
If our company were a person, it would be the quiet IT professional in the background- not the loudest in the room, but the one who makes sure everything runs smoothly. Available 24/7, as resilient as a data center, and with an impressively high bandwidth in their mind.
